Although I don't live in the 3rd Ward, I've followed the 3rd Ward City Council race at a distance. Since the primary, I've looked closer at the candidates and listened to what they have to say. I've monitored the discussions here on mpls.issues. This election holds importance for those living in the 3rd Ward as well as for those living throughout the city of Minneapolis. Minneapolis is in tough shape financially, so every city council seat is important. I'm endorsing and supporting Don Samuels for the 3rd Ward City Council seat. I've talked with Don and I share many, many issues of interest and concern:
-his strong desire to maintain basic city services, -his business background is a plus & he supports fiscal discipline in gov't. -his interest in obtaining increased efficiency from city government -his focus on priority areas of police, fire, roads, sewer and water -his support of multi-modal transportation options and livable communities; safe, strong neighborhoods and a growing small business environment. -his support for deconcentration of poverty in Minneapolis, and his support for diverse neighborhoods, mixed-use and mixed-income housing options. -his interest in environmental and public health issues, and sustainable development throughout the city -his interest in instant runoff voting, and -his support for a strong neighborhood role in city planning Don is talking about the issues I care about. [see donsamuels.org/CampaignPlatform.pdf ] I feel he's got plenty of relevant background and experience. I think Don is the man for the job. Vote for Don Samuels on Feb. 3rd!
