I'd add that we are also seeing the further declining power of organized labor in city-wide races, though the influence of labor in the party still appears strong. Labor took a hit in 2001 and in this race, particularly in how it may be perceived with respect to the plumber's union and the conviction of CM Biernat. I was thinking that Olin Moore was going to pull this race out easily, given the potential labor turnout in NE and a likely small turnout in North Minneapolis, but RT and others may think otherwise, or at least believe that labor is not so powerful in the race or overall in the city that he can effectively disregard its political interests.
