I found it very difficult to get our elected officials involved in the campout this past week (note Dean, Natalie and Gail were the exception) regarding the horrible oppression of people living on the streets i.e. homeless.
    I now know why.
With all of the passionate debate on this forum recently about homelessness, affordable housing and the suffering of poor and homeless people... and not a word from our Mayor... he now holds forth on the wonderful "Loppett."
In all fairness, the Mayor did finally do the filmed interview with me about homelessnes this past Friday. ... but only after being pursued to keep his word, and requiring me to wait for hours in City Hall after 36 hours of no sleep but with a promise of "maybe" being placed before me.
Our camera crew person waited with me, Lydia Howell (journalist and the only person I trust to get a good interview with the Mayor waited.)
Why is it that when it comes to poor people, homeless people and "nobodies" such as myself, we get scraps.
And then I read about the Mayor spending hours at the Loppett (whatever that is) when his aides told me continually that I had to understand how very busy he is with very important issues, and he might give me an interview.
What burns in my ears is his aide finally telling me "You know Margaret, a 15 minute interview with the Mayor will not solve homelessness."
                  What an outrage,
                               Margaret Hastings-Mpls.-Kingfield
