Complex thing the Mayoralty is, there always will be stuff that
people both like and dislike. In the budget process, there is a limit to funds available. What can the city do, plant money trees? They actually do that with such as the convention center, farmers market and prospectively stadiums and etc., those concessions actually supply most of the city revenues. In the City, -like with the State- they have to make the expenditures fit into the revenue amounts though. In shortfall years like this, there has to be spending cuts. It isn't the Mayor's -or the new Governor's fault. That just is the job they are in.

I agree with James. I have been lurking the list more than writing these past few weeks, and it seems to me the more the budget forecast seems so dark and dreary, people are sticking the heels in to lay a claim to monies, that we just don't have. I look at most of the problems, though no fault of the Mayor's, city council or new Governor, as problems as ones that could not be helped. Due to the fact of 911 set backs and talks of war, the whole economy is suffering.

How could one know that there would be things that would rock the nation only to have it bounce into the backyards of our local government. Now they are trying to deal with what they have. Trying to walk a tight rope is very hard. The sad thing is that maybe some things have to be cut or skimmed so that other more important matters in this city can survive. We really need to think of these things before we start to do the blame game.

However, before cuts are made, I would like for the powers that be, to look at some programming that is getting funding from city or state pocketbooks, and if those programs are not working, then it is a waste of money to continue to fund things that are not doing what it said they were going to do. I personally know some of these programs and had asked, you got money for this? What a waste. We need to mange our money better, we need to demand results from those who get there funding from city funding.
