David Brauer writes: "Frankly, I find the demonizing of disagreement to be particularly
distasteful. It seems like so much of our civic discussion lately does
not recognize legitimate differences of opinion - someone must be
corrupt, or selfish. We, on the other hand, are selfless and pure and so
much more decent."

MRH writes: In the interest of clarity ( and also because I did not agree with D.B.'s post) I would be curious as to what D.Brauer means in his use of the term "demonizing"... does it mean whoever holds a different point of view is a "demonizer"?
Is the term demonizing interchangeable with terms such as " axis of evil", the "evil doers"...?  Like these terms it is an inflammatory term with no real purpose to it other than to paint others with a broad (negative) brush.

MRH writes: I could expound on how very selfish and not pure I am when I espouse my point of view... but then I might appear as self serving, disingenuous, in denial, defensive. Then I would have to start fretting as to whether I am a good enough person to even put my opinion forth.
Since I am pretty selfish, I think I will dispense with the fretting and just keep on voicing my opinion...until the Patriot Act manages to shut me up.
