Greetings List. Nicholas Frank, a Certified Public Accountant, writes that we should use the Governor's suggestions to allocate tax dollars collected to the place where they are used or earned. For example he suggests that Gas Tax funds be allocated based on miles traveled! What a great idea.
London has just implemented a 5 pound per day tax on all cars driving in an eight square mile area of central London. They photograph auto licenses and send a bill if the driver hasn't paid by the end of the day. (The bill includes a fine!) Our fair state charges income tax on pro sportsmen who perform in our stadia and civic arena. Kendall Gill and Stephon Marbury pay income tax for the priveledge of losing to the Timberwolves at eh Target Center. Minneapolis could use these ideas to increase our revenue. All people who work in Minneapolis could be taxed on an amounts they earn over say $87,000 per year. This tax could be equal to the FICA and other withholding taes that stop at the $87,000 level. I'm sure those who earn that much could afford to keep paying that small percentage on the amounts above $87,000. We could install cameras all over downtown and add charges to all parking ramps in downtown We might not even need $8.00 per car per day. Maybe only $5.00 per car. New revenue sources will go along way to helping Minneapolis create more wealth. After all, wealth creation is what government should be about. -- In cooperation, Erik Riese Seward: a great place to live, work, learn, and play!
