Probably not the way Alexandra wanted to discuss this issue...

don't put money on that, Gary.

for clarification sake, i have asked what list members think about the BORDC resolution - a resolution that addresses implementation of the Patriot Act and how that will impact citizens of our city, as well as the financial burden the city will have to absorb through it's enforcement. the anti-war resolution is a different matter.

i have tossed this topic out for discussion because it is important. i believe that we citizens should debate how the Patriot Act affects our lives, and whether or not we support a council resolution that addresses it.

inferring that the city council will address reparations, global warming, rain forest issues, dolphin saving, etc., is inflammatory, and a distraction from the relevant and timely issue at hand: challenging a measure that infringes on our civil rights and liberties.

with regard to the Patriot Act, i have heard the argument that losing a bit of freedom is the cost for security -- some people feel it is a fair trade. i respect their opinion -- i do not agree with it, but i respect their right to have it. the thing is, i want to know why they hold that opinion.

minneapolis is not alone: over thirty cities have already passed this resolution. there was a segment worth watching on the News Hour tonight about a similar resolution in Florida. i believe it replays at midnight.

as for the question about Dean Zimmermann: he does a lot - he is a tireless advocate for his ward. and on top of all his hard work in the community and at city hall, i have seen him picking-up trash at the corner while he waits for his bus. the 6th ward is lucky to have him.
