Whew! Interesting discussion. What I'm going to be watching is whether Rybak's vaunted communications setup does a better job with this than the city has done with past shootings. Obviously when a cop shoots another cop, you have a major problem. It seems like the paper said the shooters were using submachine guns. I think that takes a little bit of rethinking, too. Even if the Asian was an attacker, since when does one-on-one violence justify the use of high-power automatic weapons? Once again, I ask the poolice to think about DEFENSE, not about using crushing attack tactics. That tactic has led to deaths from friendly fire in the military, and now it seems it is doing the same type of thing in local law enforcement. Try to remember the Romans who used the full body shield to protect the phalanxes from hostile fire. Make the police more confident that they will survive the exchange of fire and you give them the psychological space to PAUSE and reconnoiter before slinging bullets. Stop trying to ! win this war with psychological means. That's a desperation tactic, and it is lethal, including the murder of bystanders which is unforgiveable for those who "protect and serve".
And this is going to be a good first test for Don Samuels of the grand election rhetoric. Don, you don't represent me, but a lot of people you do represent wants to see that streak of "independence" you advertised and which the Green Party has shown in representing the next ward. Speak words of calm to the ward residents but also demand a FAIR examination of how these police accidents keep happening. Of all the CM's, you probably owe less to the Police Federation than most. So, show you are beyond intimidation. We need to support the good cops by holding bad cops up to professional standards. -------------- Jim Mork--Cooper "Save yourself from this corrupt generation....All who believed were together and had all things in common; they would sell their possessions and goods and distribute the proceeds to all, as any had need".
