City Hall-community 'match' eludes Rybak so far By: Isaac Peterson, III Minnesota Spokesman-Recorder Originally posted 2/19/2003
In assessing how Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak is currently regarded by his African American constituents, I put the question to the mayor himself in a February 11 interview. However, he seemed more interested in discussing his future plans for working with the African American community than reviewing the past. The mayor repeatedly stressed the restructuring of development agencies as one of the most important things he is trying to do for the community. He told us, ''The City is still far too divided along race and economic lines. The key to that is creating more economic opportunity for populations that weren't sharing equally in the big boom years of a few years ago. ''And the response from the government of the City of Minneapolis, I believe, needs to be that our development work has to focus on economic empowerment that crosses those lines.'' He said he also encourages people of color to apply for positions on boards and commissions. http://www.spokesman-recorder.com/news/Article/Article.asp?NewsID=22875&sID=4 [EMAIL PROTECTED] Shawn Lewis, Field Neighborhood -- _______________________________________________ Sign-up for your own FREE Personalized E-mail at Mail.com http://www.mail.com/?sr=signup Meet Singles http://corp.mail.com/lavalife TEMPORARY REMINDER: 1.
