FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: �Ginger Sisco, Sisco Public Relations, Inc, 763-544-0629, [EMAIL PROTECTED] PARK BOARD ELECTS CAROL KUMMER TO FILL 5TH PARK DISTRICT SEAT Minneapolis, MN�March 5, 2003�At its meeting this evening, the members of the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board elected Carol Kummer to fill the 5th park district seat held by Edward Solomon who died following a lengthy illness. �Kummer was sworn in immediately and will serve until December 31, 2005. Twenty people sent in applications for the vacant commissioner position. �Seven remained after the first vote. �Following interviews, the field was narrowed to three candidates: W. Harry Davis, Lou Chouinard, and Gregory Bastien. �When none of the three received the required six votes, Harry Davis withdrew his name. �The board voted to amend the voting procedures, and Carol Kummer, a finalist in the second round, was elected by a vote of 7-1. Kummer served on the Metropolitan Council from 1991-2003, was a committee administrator for the Minnesota House of Representatives, and is currently a management analyst for the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry. �It is an honor to serve on this board. �I intend to follow in Ed Solomon�s footsteps carrying forward the best of his work and building my own legacy for the benefit of the citizens and this fine park system,� said Kummer.
