PARK BOARD ELECTS CAROL KUMMER TO FILL

5TH PARK DISTRICT SEAT

Minneapolis, MNMarch 5, 2003At its meeting this evening, the members of
the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board elected Carol Kummer to fill the 5th
park district seat held by Edward Solomon who died following a lengthy
illness. Kummer was sworn in immediately and will serve until December 31,
2005.

Twenty people sent in applications for the vacant commissioner position.
Seven remained after the first vote. Following interviews, the field was
narrowed to three candidates: W. Harry Davis, Lou Chouinard, and Gregory
Bastien. When none of the three received the required six votes, Harry
Davis withdrew his name. The board voted to amend the voting procedures,
and Carol Kummer, a finalist in the second round, was elected by a vote of
7-1.

Kummer served on the Metropolitan Council from 1991-2003, was a committee
administrator for the Minnesota House of Representatives, and is currently a
management analyst for the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry.

It is an honor to serve on this board. I intend to follow in Ed Solomons
footsteps carrying forward the best of his work and building my own legacy
for the benefit of the citizens and this fine park system, said Kummer.
