Hey thanks, That was my pizza shack back then. I was only sixteen but the
real owner spent all his time , when not rifling the till, down at Mac &
Caps, so I ran the joint for a couple of years. What a gold mine. We ran
Gopher pizza out of business and then had a monopoly on the U's campus.
Please read that again. We had the only pizza shop on the campus ( Hey, that
stuff at Vescio's was NOT pizza; ecch).
Once, just a tad into his numerous cups, the owner offered me a partnership
in the place for ten thousand dollars (my mother would have to sign of
course, he'd actually had this thing drawn up}. The only thing loonier than a
Projects kid coming up with Ten Grand in '65 is if I'd actually pulled it
off , I could be Vickie Hellers neighbor now..
Yes, it was by far and away the best pizza in town in it's day. Chicago style
everything except deep dish and I'm sure that hadn't been invented yet
anyway.
After thirty five years I guess it's okay to reveal that we never did locate
the thumb tip that Dick lost one night while slicing the pepperoni.
