Thanks for all the great info, Caitlin. And to think that Mr. Bush and Mr. Pawlenty just can't see fit to protect and help take care of this part of our society. Billions for war and we can't even take care of our own. It is all very sad and depressing. On this list most of us pride ourselves on Minneapolis being a beautiful city to live, work and play in. But without our non-essential parks and libraries as we know them, less firefighters and police to protect and help us, what will become of our great city. And how many of us just might end as part of these numbers Caitlin gathered for us? Its jobs and the economy that make us reliant on the oil Mr. Bush wants and as I see it with the economy going down the toilet tank (as they say) the going on all throughout government that are losing sight of that fact. So give me jobs, get the economy rolling again and then maybe we can talk about what to do out in the rest of the world. I know I'm being naive' and wish it really was all that simple.
As the Park Board looks at layoffs, closing park buildings, having less park officers and agents, less mowing and many other options I try to remember that the economy does this thing about every ten years. Yet 10 years ago I don't remember it being this kitty-whompis and spinning out of control. The Park Board will be coming out into the community during April and May so you can help us figure out what services you don't want for awhile. It is not pretty and we need your help in making these tough decisions.
Homeless, closed park buildings, no downtown library, can't find a job... these tell the other side of the story in our beautiful city. And why - no more taxes! Right!?!
