Peter Schmitz writes: "Elected officials who make up our government are the ones who are ultimately responsible for the welfare of us all....."
Vicky replies: Wrong! Charity is not a government function. It's true that we have "let" government take care of problems that we would rather not deal with ourselves - like caring for our elderly parents and others in need. The fact that we "let" them do so doesn't make it right or moral. Elected officials are supposed to clear the pathways for us, make sure the playing field is level (fair), and protect us from bullies, foreign and domestic. We are responsible for our own welfare, our own pursuit of happiness, our own success, our own failure.
