Regarding Rep Lindner's homophobic and racist remarks, Paul Kuettel wrote: Lindner is an honest and decent man and his strong belief system informs his work in the House. Sadly. he has a proclivity for putting his foot in his mouth.
David Piehl writes: OK, this isn't exactly a Minneapolis issue, except that this city has taken the position that GLBT folks deserve equal protection under the law, and the fact that there are many GLBT and people of color who make Minneapolis home. Heck, some even win elections - like Robert Lilligren (who is both gay and part Native American), Scott Bensen, Natalie Johnson-Lee, Don Samuels, and Gary Schiff. However, I would posit that if Rep Lindner is to be described as "an honest and decent man", then at the very least, this statement should be qualified with "in an Archie Bunker sort of way" (who also had a proclivity for putting his foot in his mouth). Further, the belief system of the 9/11 terrorists informed their work on that fateful day as well, it's not exactly a positive thing. While I am religious, it is not appropriate for Rep Linder to use his interpretation of his religion to do harm to others. Perhaps Rep Lindner stopped reading his Bible when he got to Leviticus (only the third book), and never made it to the Golden Rule. Selective reading? In any case, perhaps we can make this a Minneapolis issue by inviting Rep Lindner to meet some of the many residents of our city that he disparages with his remarks. Can the city take a more official position? I heard that my state rep, Neva Walker, really tied into Lindner for his remarks; great job Neva!!
