Council delay will cost taxpayers

Minneapolis city leaders have an
obligation to uphold the law. Yet,
when it comes to federal mediation,
Ive often wondered exactly what the
mayor and the city council are trying
to accomplish. Is the City really
interested in discussing problems
with the police department and
bringing forth meaningful solutions?
Do they even understand what mediation
is all about? They pass a resolution
desiring to mediate but then stall
when it is time to come to the table.
Or they say, We want to choose who
will sit on the communitys side of
the table. Now, to top it all off,
some city leaders are also trying to
pick the lawyers for
the community team. How much more
ridiculous can this get?

Like other members of the community,
I had a strange notion that our new
city council members would be guardians
of the peoples interests. Boy, were we
wrong. We are learning a very powerful
lesson that certain people who run
for office advocating for real change
forget about it once they get in and,
instead, try to secure political
positions for themselves. Decisions made
by the city council should be based solely
on facts and not on political aspirations.
But for some of these folks, thats not
how its done.
