Absolutely Mr. Stone, how better to support our troops
than to bring them home safe and sound!!!

I don't think that opposing the rush to war is at all
inconsistent with supporting the troops. The issues
are in fact distinctly seperate one's. The troops
aren't the one's making the decision to go to war,
they are following orders even if they themselves
disagree witht this particular war. It is our
responsibility as members of a democracy where the
leadership of our country presumably is granted the
right to lead by our collective consent to make sure
that the leadership of our country is not sending the
troops off on an unnecessary mission.

Personally, as a glbt community activist, I have met
discreetly with same sex partners of troops sent over
as part of this operation and offerred my support to
them as family members who have few other places to
turn for support due to the military's official
discriminatory policies. There also are single
military people who are glbt who have sought support
from the glbt community and glbt groups to help hold
their households together while they are away. I
understand the need for us to support ALL our troops
who have volunteered to defend us. This includes
making sure the troops are not put in harms way
needlessly when other avenues to resolve the conflict
have yet to be explored.

The arguments against the war at this time with this
country for the reasons stated by our nation's
leadership are quite persuasive in my opinion(though
not germane to the purpose of this listserve-you can
contact me offline for more discussion of this).

p.s. I was fired from a union retail job in MI during
the last gulf war because I refused to wear a yellow
ribbon on my uniform at work because I felt it implied
that I personally supported the war as well as the
troops. I strongly support people's right to express
their opinion in the way they see fit and offer this
information for the many locally who oppose the
war(whether they support the troops or not) as
opportunities to express themselves.
