The Bill of Rights Defense Resolution will have to wait another council cycle for approval. It appears CM Benson neglected to have the item placed on the Intergovernmental Relations Committee agenda last cycle. I believe this neglect wasn't deliberate but I am astounded that something so important to so many citizens and CM Zimmerman could have had the opportunity to be neglected. To me, it seems the same as saying one neglected to stop for a stoplight, neglected to wear mittens in winter, neglected to put the collar on the dog before attempting to leash up for a walk in the park.

As far as CM Lane's concern that an attempt was being made to "silence dissent" by not having the ordinance heard on the IGR Committee, I have to ask - and sincerely - does the "democracy is for those who show up" rule apply to CM's too? It's not like it wasn't known this ordinance was floating around City Hall. I've seen CM's show up at public hearings. I was also under the impression council members talked to each other outside of committees. It seems to me that asking a question here or there would be a more friendly way to go about getting things done and certainly more respectful of CM Zimmerman.

I do admire CM Zimmerman for not giving into sarcasm or crankiness today when things didn't go as planned. And CM Zerby for so passionately fighting fights worth fighting, like this resolution and the integrity of the Civilian Review Authority.
