 Plantation mentality alive in Minneapolis

It frustrates me when I have to spend
my time fighting about federal mediation.
Unless we lay all the cards on the table
and talk openly about the issues, we will
never get to the core of the problem.

It has become very clear to me that Mayor
Rybak and Chief Olson are only interested
in maintaining the status quo and are not
really interested in coming to the mediation
table in good faith. We need public servants
who are responsive to the needs of our
community.

Now, most of us who understand the history
of our country, and know how politics are
played, can see what the mayor and the chief
are trying to do. It is what we used to call,
back in slavery days, using a plantation
mentality to divide and conquer. This
technique was used to perpetuate racial
self-hatred, division, and separating
Blacks by bestowing privileges and status
on some. Plantation owners would use loyal
Blacks to do their dirty work. This
method would minimize resentment and
retaliation towards themselves.
