On Thursday night, Tamir Nolley asked:

"On a different note, has anyone else noticed that
there have been more complaints against the State
Patrol and Transit Police and less against Minneapolis
2nd Precinct officers since Rich Stanek became
Commissioner of Public Safety?
I'd be interested in knowing which Minneapolis State
Senators voted to confirm him and why.  I'd like to
know if the DFL controled Senate looked in to those
brutality settlements (between Mpls/Rich Stanek and
the motorists he roughed up) and if not why not."
Don adds:

No Minneapolis State Senators voted to confirm him,
because the confirmation hearings haven't even been
held yet.  Right now the Senate committees are
meeting day and night holding public hearings on bills,
because the deadline for hearing bills in "policy"
committees is only two weeks away.  Confirmation
hearings are not subject to this deadline, so they
are typically held after that.  There are about 25
members of the Governor's cabinet and hardly any
of them have been confirmed yet.  However, they
serve as commissioners by virtue of the Governor's
appointment until the confirmation vote comes up.

I would urge Tamir and anyone else with concerns
about this issue to e-mail the committee (Crime
Prevention and Public Safety).  They might not
have time to respond to you right away, because
of the crush I described above, but they can keep
it for when confirmation hearings are scheduled.
Try [EMAIL PROTECTED] since he chairs the
committee, but also consider e-mails to the two
Minneapolis senators who serve on the committee:
[EMAIL PROTECTED] and
[EMAIL PROTECTED]  Again, they might not
have time to respond immediately, but chances are
they will hold on to your messages so that when
this does come up they have the information.
