I am watching the news and just heard the reporter describe a car in a
parking lot as a 'safe haven' for the permit holder's weapon. Do the
legislators really think this is so? The gun would be much
safer with the permit holder than in any car. Have they looked at the
number of cars broken into every year? Go to a mall, the Dome, Target
or Xcel Center and the thieves will have a field day breaking into your
car. And before anyone yells about the cops beefing up patrols in the
area, remember, the legislature also cut aid to at least two of the three cities
housing these facilities thus causing those cities to lay off officers.
I'm not saying that guns should be allowed any place a person wants to
go. that would be a violation of all sorts of other people's civil rights
(yes, NRA, people other than gun owners have civil rights, too). I would
simply suggest that people find out if they will be able to keep their guns with
them while they are out, and if not, then leave the gun at home. Of
course, most people want to be able to carry their gun into the dangerous cities
of Mpls and St Paul, so, thieves, practice up on smashing car windows and prying
open glove compartments and trunks. Oh, and the rest of us can look forward
to higher insurance rates.
