Cameras downtown.
What is Target hoping to gain from this generous offer to Mpls?
If its crime reduction then would it not be better place them in worse areas
of the city?
Maybe trying to catch drug dealers at work in Jordan, or elsewhere.
Personally I have mixed feelings about surveillance cameras. A bit too
Orwellian for me, but also can serve a very good purpose.
Mainly I don't trust my government to not abuse the #$%&* out of it for
their own hidden agendas.
This council may not have one, but who knows about the next one. Slippery
slope, probably.
Call me a cynic if you will.

Target on Broadway closing.
Been to that store once. It was a disgrace to that company to have a store
in such manner.
Way too many empty shelves, unclean, and a mess. No wonder they cant make
any money there.
Besides that, Targets target market is not poor or black (what that area is
believed to be).
Maybe the great retail pariah (Wal-Mart) will move in and make a killing.

BTW, no one on here has seen fit to respond to my tax proposal of letting
each government body tax income for its needs, and only its needs. Feds for
feds, state for state, county for eh county, and the city for the city.
That would end the need to Aid for Cities the state has been dealing with
this past session. Maybe my idea is half baked and rotten, but I figured I
would at least be told so by some on this forum. I find myself amazed at
that.

Subject: [Mpls] PATRIOT ACT III - DOWNTOWN TARGET SURVEILLANCE CAMERAS

One would hope that our council members would review they reasons they
passed a resolution against the Patriot Act before they allow themselves to
be snookered into believing this is the right thing to do. The Patriot Act
is all about giving the government power to invade personal liberty on the
basis of what might occur. So is allowing government the power to suveil
citizens on the streets. Even Barrett Lane should vote against this one on
the basis of its glaring inconsistency with previous Council action on the
Patriot Act.
