There were so many post regarding the planned closings of swimming pools, it got the attention of downtown and the Park Board. I too, enjoyed the pool at the park when my son was younger. The dissent worked, the pools are back. Now I will try and get some folks interested in something else silly the City is going to do.
There are 19 "buildings" that will be sold in Cedar Riverside, 13 duplexes and 6 single family homes. The owners (that I am aware of ) are: the West Bank CDC, and CHDC, where Mr. Richard Brustad is a Board Member. The homes were purchased for between $500-1000.00 (not including the land-owned by the City of Mpls) around 20 years ago. The MCDA intends to "forgive" a loan of appx. 1.5 million, when the homes are sold. The non-profits get to keep the proceeds from the home sales, and not pay back the loan to the city (aka TAXPAYERS). Since they really never paid for the homes, why can they keep the proceeds and 1.5 million dollars of taxpayer money??? The intent of the "affordable housing" development on the West Bank was supposed to be eventual homeownership. The numerous acronyms on the West Bank never really intended to sell the homes (there are about 250 of them) but instead use every legal trick in the book (tax codes) to perpetuate poverty and enrich themselves for over 20 years now. The WBCDC should move on and "develop" someone else's neighborhood. All of the homes should be sold, (as originally promised) to low to moderate income previous (displaced), and current residents. Barbara Murray Riverside Park TEMPORARY REMINDER: 1. Don't feed the troll! Ignore obvious flame-bait. 2. If you don't like what's being discussed here, don't complain - change the subject (Mpls-specific, of course.) ________________________________ Minneapolis Issues Forum - A City-focused Civic Discussion - Mn E-Democracy Post messages to: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Subscribe, Unsubscribe, Digest, and more: http://e-democracy.org/mpls
