Every once in the while it's necessary to give the
NIMBYs of this list a reality check and sort of put
things in perspective. Cub is not the wolf that
WalMart, A.K.A. the Beast of Bentonville, is. They're
not the (paper) tiger Target is either. Cub is a
subsidiary of Super Valu, a medium sized grocery
wholesaler and to a smaller degree retailer. Super
Valu was founded and is still located in Minnesota and
employes thousands of well paid union members.

And, in this case Dyna needs a reality check.
SuperValu really does not qualify as a "medium sized
grocery wholesaler and to a smaller degree retailer".
SuperValue is a fortune 100 company, the 11th largest
grocery company in the country, 58,000 employees, 1250
stores in 40 states, annual sales of over $20 billion!

Roundys, the Wisconsin based retailer that bought
Rainbow from Fleming is much smaller, with annual
sales of about $2 billion. Roundy's is very regional,
whereas SuperValu is national.

I'm happy that the twin cities now has the presence of
a major regional grocery retail grocery operation.
Another locally based (Edina) fortune 500 company,
Nash Finch, is reportedly planning to open local
retail outlets as well, bringing much needed choice to
the local market.
