Minneapolis Police Department does have Tasers, they use Tasers manufactured from:
http://www.taser.com/ Only officers that are trained as CIT (Critical Incident T(?)) are autherized to carry the M4 Tasers. However, those officers are trained go through 40 hours of training and each taser costs at least $500.00 each, not including additional costs for replacement taser dart cartriges. Short of the suspect having a gun, a officer who is trained as a CIT officer will use the Taser instead of deadly force. There are limitations to the effectiveness of a Taser (e.i. winter coat, leather jacket...). However with the current budget cuts to the MPD and other government agencies, purchasing additional tasers and training additional officers to be certified in the use of tasers will not be possible unless someone would be willing to donate to pay for them.
