I think it boils down to a matter of personal taste when shopping for groceries and all your household needs. Personally, I love North Mpls and will shop here whenever possible. Sometimes I go to larger chain hardware stores because what I need isn't carried at my neighborhood hardware store. But I can still keep my meager contributions to commerce in the City by going to the Quarry for Home Depot and Office Max (or is it a Depot, I get so confused).
I shop exclusively at Kowalski's (44th & Penn) for groceries because they've got high quality and strive to support the community (made a nice donation to the Northside Arts Collective's Spring Art Party). And it's just a great store -- good, happy employees and good, happy produce and meats! As a single person, I don't need a Cub Foods -- matter of fact, I spend more when I go in a big store like that. But I now see the viability through this discussion for something competitive and easy access for those without transportation. While I won't shop there, I hope it serves the community well. I do, however, object to public money to help get them established particular in these days of cut backs in public services. While bringing jobs to the community is important, can't these big rich businesses just do that out of the goodness of their hearts instead of seeking public dollars as a bonus? Cripes, it's all about greed these days, isn't it?!? Ignore obvious flame-bait. 2. If you don't like what's being discussed here, don't complain - change the subject (Mpls-specific, of course.) ________________________________ Minneapolis Issues Forum - A City-focused Civic Discussion - Mn E-Democracy Post messages to: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Subscribe, Unsubscribe, Digest, and more: http://e-democracy.org/mpls
