Jim writes: Anybody else think there's something a little oneSIDED when
Democrats talk politics at the memorial of a political scientist and get
a "backlash". Or a DFL council member notes the passing of a leading
racist and is threatened with a "backlash". Yet a major party of the
RIGHT does one outrageous thing after another and is NEVER warned "be
careful you'll get a backlash". Yes, that is what we've heard over and
over: Only Democrats seem to suffer a "backlash". Someone EXPLAIN that
to me. It makes no intuitive sense.

Peter responds: Jim's point is well taken. Of course this is oneSIDED
and unfair. But as I learned from grade school you never thumb your nose
at a bully until you're ready, willing and able to fight him or her on
their own terms.

Because Democrats, particularly our own DFLers, are such wimps the have
take extra care in what they say and do. Republicans, on the other hand,
can practically get away with anything because they know how to fight.

As for Council member Schiff, it's SO EASY to insult a recently deceased
hundred year old retired U.S. senator from the South. But like the rest
of his DFL colleagues in City Hall, Schiff can't stand up to our own
racist bullies, i.e., rogue cops from the Minneapolis Police force.
Despite all the recent incidents of police brutality, CM Schiff and the
rest of the city council gutted the Civilian Review Authority and
extended a raise in pay to the police while all other city employees have
to make due without a raise.

And why would Schiff be so proud to tag along with the Howard Dean
contingency in the parade when presidential candidate Dean is a supporter
of the death penalty, our country's most racist institution? I guess
it's only okay for Democrats to be racist.

As for those idiots who cheered Schiff's "Goodbye" sign, they might
want to consider their own loyalties. Think about it. The late Senator
Wellstone is made Grand Marshall for this year's Pride Parade despite
voting for the homophobic Defense of the Marriage Act. More offensive
than his vote was his rationale, explaining that he had been brought up
to believe that marriage was an institution that only a male/female
couple could partake in, despite the fact that one of his main political
opponents used the same reasoning as a strategy to take votes away from
him (i.e., Wellstone does not deserve the votes of Jews because he, a
Jew, married a gentile.) Then last year he goes on to say his vote for
DOM might've been a mistake, but refuses to say whether he would vote to
repeal it.

Speaking of Wellstone, why don't Democrats, local and national, demand a
thorough investigation, into the "accident" that killed him--an
investigation that will unequivocally rule out foul play? This is what
they should've been doing when the right started carping on the Democrats
Party after Rick Kahn delivered silly little speech at Wellstone's
memorial. But because Democrats lack the courage of whatever convictions
they might have left, the Republicans triumphed once
again.-----------------Peter Schmitz CARAG
