Fantastic news, indeed!! The Dakota has long been a great spot, but it's new location right on the Mall will make it all the better. I always welcome new opportunities to hear the likes of 'Good Morning Heartache' or 'Lullaby of Birdland' performed live in a local setting-- guess we're gett'in 'In the Groove' here in Minneapolis! While a trip to Chicago to catch some jazz and blues is always nice, I'd rather find some 'Solitude' or 'Something to Live For' right here on the Nicollet Mall or elsewhere in DT Minneapolis! No doubt about it, the Dakota will be a very nice addition to the diverse entertainment available downtown.
Yes, in downtown Minneapolis, even with a lackluster economy, we seem to be retaining and expanding the number of great dining spots and live music and theater venues; add too, the new movie complex, hotel, dining and retail on Block E; the Skyway system and light rail to facilitate getting around, year 'round; a new Central Library, and vast riverfront development, including the historic mill district and warehouse area redevelopments that offer numerous housing options, the Mill City Museum and Mill Ruins Park areas, the new Guthrie, and much more. Across the river, added residential and commercial redevelopment moves up East Hennepin and Central. More people are moving downtown, living downtown and spending money downtown. Just wait 'till the economy turns around, then it will really get interesting!
