Seven Southside Neighborhoods Produce Food, Fun

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. (June 17, 2003) - Mayor R.T. Rybak and City Council member Gary
Schiff will join local musicians and performers July 12 to celebrate the grand opening
of the Midtown Public Market, located at the corner of Lake Street and Hiawatha
Avenue. The market will be open from July 12 through October 29, Tuesdays from 4:30
a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Grand opening highlights include music by neighborhood band Steve Kaul and
Friends and Spanish country singer Esteban Perez. Attendees can also expect to see a
drum performance by the Bancroft Taiko Kids and a special appearance by Chicks on
Sticks.
Midtown Public Market shoppers can buy produce, meats and other locally grown
and made products. Look for coffee from Mexico, but roasted in Minneapolis, cheese
from Wisconsin and crafts from local artisans. More than 30 vendors are expected.
