What bugs me about these appointments is that they are TOO reminiscent of
what is done in the executive ranks of corporatiosn with the same lame
defenses. And here's another question: Well, then why did the city look all
over the nation when filling the police chief position when Robert Olson was
appointed. Surely somebody had a tennis buddy fit for the job! No, try as
David and some others might, there are serious questions about these
appointments. Much as the attempt is made to sell these individuals as "best
fitted for the job", I have a feeling the choices were made about R. T.
Rybak wanting yes men. And I don't think the voters voted for that
approach. It could be that R.T. has the rising star complex that Norm
Coleman had and so is making his choices in terms of his career goals more
than the welfare of the city (we know Coleman did that). But I think those
of us who foot the bills have EVERY right to raise questions. This is
supposed to be e-democracy, David. This is where we have citizen input and
roust the insiders to defend their actions. So to try to silence that sort
of debate as somehow "unfair" undermines the very purpose of e-democracy.
I'm a little shocked to find Jim Graham SUDDENLY waving the pom poms for
insiders. I wonder what that means. It is a bit out of character. But it is
a side issue. The main issue is that this won't be finessed with PR worthy
of a corporate communications director. We need some straight talk. And R.
T. needs to be on notice that he's excited a lot of suspicions among those
who dig in our pockets for his expenditures. He doesn't have a huge amount
of credit with us. And if he starts looking like Belton-Cherryhomes, the
bandwagon could get REAL empty REAL fast!
