Since rainwater management seems to be a topic today on the list, I thought
I would send my notice about the upcoming Rain Garden Tour that is part of
Fulton's Landscaping for Rainwater Management Project. Fulton has worked
with 8 homeowners in the first phase of its education, consulting and
matching grant project to encourage landscaping for rainwater management
principles. This includes rain gardens, rain barrels, gutter downspout
redirection, and infiltration systems designed to lessen the level of water
that flows from individual property down our streets, alleys and sidewalks.
The ultimate goal is to decrease the level of rainwater carrying pollutants
that flows into our lakes and streams. This innovative project was funded
through NRP and a grant from the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District.

The self-guided tour will be from July 31 to August 3. Interested public
can show up at any of the six tour sites listed below during daylight hours
and pick up a guide book. Each home will have a billboard on the property
describing the improvements that were made. Check out
www.fultonneighborhood.org for more information about the project and the
tour.

Tour Sites include:
5240 Beard Ave S
4852 Chowen Ave S
5008 Chowen Ave S
5016 Chowen Ave S
5241 Chowen Ave S
4915 Ewing Ave S

The tour should provide good examples of the range of improvements
homeowners can make on their own property to promote better rainwater
management. With all the hard surface in our urban environment, we need to
provide a place for the rain to go. The more we do this on individual
property, the less negative impact rainfall will have on our public spaces -
roads, parks, lakes, and streams.

TEMPORARY REMINDER:
1. Don't feed the troll! Ignore obvious flame-bait.
2. If you don't like what's being discussed here, don't complain - change the subject
(Mpls-specific, of course.)
