I'd like to thank Carol Johnson (and MPS Board members) for their hard work and dedication to improving educational outcomes in Minneapolis. It's tough, and too often, thankless work that is often under attach by armchair critics-- myself included on occasion. There are many determinants in urban education that stretch beyond the realm of classroom and administration, and I'm sure Dr. Johnson will find most of those same variables at work in Memphis.
Minneapolis now faces the uncertainty of finding a new Superintendent capable of meeting these challenges and more. After all, the task just seems to get more difficult as each year passes, given urban poverty, crime, broken homes, racial strife and language difficulties. The picture in today's STrib, of Board member Audrey Johnson and Carol Johnson looking each other in the eye while embracing tells a real story of the compassion and dedication in this struggle. My best to Carol in her new endeavors and to the MPS Board in their search for a replacement. Michael Hohmann Linden Hills TEMPORARY REMINDER: 1. Don't feed the troll! Ignore obvious flame-bait. 2.
