It's worth remembering that the Republicans haven't had much power in the state 
legislature for the last 30 years. Also, the DFL has pretty much had a lock on city 
government in that time.

Hawthorne's problems didn't start when Tim Pawlenty took office. They've been a very 
long time in the making.
