The U's history as a major center of psychological research contributed to the creation of the Program in Human Sexuality http://www.med.umn.edu/fp/phs/tgs.htm Some of the people involved with that program work on setting the standards for the gender reassignment process, so we ARE a bit of a center. Also, it isn't just transsexuals who desire to use the 'wrong' restroom. Appropriate use of bathrooms is one of the topics that will cause flame-wars in gender-queer circles. As an example of that, Ms. Manners hasn't really touched on what to do if the gender you are presenting through clothing and hair-style conflicts with the anatomy you pee with. Opinions differ, and *foom* flamage. As for numbers... there are more than you think. For every transexual who has finished their surgeries there are many more who stopped short of The Big Surgery, content to just cross-live, or taking hormones did what they needed to, or whatnot. As an example of that, take a Cabaret in our own back-yard: http://www.genderblur.org/ Just off of Lake-street, next to the police station. The reviews I've seen of this event (now over a year running) say that the place is packed. That is a heck of a lot more than 20 people jammed into one room in Minneapolis. Admittedly, some of those come from the rest of the metro, but still. Don't feed the troll! Ignore obvious flame-bait. 2. If you don't like what's being discussed here, don't complain - change the subject (Mpls-specific, of course.) ________________________________ Minneapolis Issues Forum - A City-focused Civic Discussion - Mn E-Democracy Post messages to: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Subscribe, Un-subscribe, etc. at: http://e-democracy.org/mpls
