I'm writing in defense of those overworked Housing Inspectors. Yes, I'm a
City Employee, but until this spring I was also the owner of a rental
property in Lyndale. When we bought the house moments before forclosure, it
had a list of violations as long as your arm. Our Housing Inspector gave us
enough time to complete everything, extending and extending the deadline as
long as we:

Made progress, kept in touch, and kept our promises.

She even compromised on the porch railings and ignored the broken screen on
her 4th visit. (it was fixed by her fifth) They are easy to work with, and
very good at returning calls. The house is now owner occupied, and looking
like an asset to the neighborhood. Yes, we would have fixed it up,
eventually. Housing just kept us moving so our neighbors didn't have to
shun us. We had about a year to catch up on 10+ years of deferred
maintenance.

As to Wi-Fi, we have a Park system that's known for the depth and breadth of
it's offerings. Heck, somebody even planted a secret apricot tree or two
years ago. Park-Fi may become a beloved and well-defended tradition in
Minneapolis, or it may not work out. I trust the Park Board to consider the
idea, and have faith that they'll drop it if it doesn't work out. Is this a
good time to be investing in our Park's infrastructure? I don't know, but
it's not a good time to stop. Ever.

1. Don't feed the troll! Ignore obvious flame-bait.
2. If you don't like what's being discussed here, don't complain - change the subject
(Mpls-specific, of course.)
