I endorse what Tim writes in his post.

The critical issue is the continued shooting of mentally ill people by
Mpls police. Part of the problem is a training issue and part of the
problem is an operations issue. I would like to see this particular
problem addressed in the selection process for the new chief. Have the
search firm seek out candidates that have dealt with this specific problem
and ask how they would attack the Minneapolis Police Dept's problem in
this area and what they would propose as short-term and long-term
solutions.

As far as I'm aware, there is the Memphis model in place. I have not
heard anything further about an evaluation of this program or any
examination of other models. Is the program working? Let them ask the
candidates for chief what they would do.

TEMPORARY REMINDER:
1. Don't feed the troll! Ignore obvious flame-bait.
2. If you don't like what's being discussed here, don't complain - change the subject
(Mpls-specific, of course.)
