If I remember my history correctly, until the early 1970s FHA had maps with the red lines to mark the boundaries between areas where Negroes (that's the term they used back then) and certain colored people could and couldn't reside. Hence the term "redlining." Lenders, real estate agents, landlords, and developers generally knew where the boundaries where and could refer to an FHA map to make sure they were not lending, selling, and leasing a particular property to a person of the wrong 'race' or color. -Doug Mann REMINDERS: 1.
