At least two of the protesters in the Tribune photo are holding
signs saying, "No teacher left behind." Kinda let's you know
what Job 1 is in Minneapolis. I would be much more sympathetic
if teachers were requesting better discipline in their schools,
less bureaucracy, better support from Human Resources, or
jobs for their laid off co-workers. But no, it about money!

I hope that Minneapolis School Board has the wherewithal to
negotiate a contract that will enable the new superintendent
to have more flexibility assigning teachers to schools, allow
testing of teachers in their subjects, and make it easier for
to remove ineffectual teachers. However, I seriously
doubt that a DFL dominated school board will request from a
labor union what is needed to raise educational standards.
Sad how nothing seems to change in the Minneapolis Public Schools,
but we should all be comforted knowing that the vegetables are safe.
