When I joined UE Local 1139 back in 1978 I asked why there wasn't a picture
of the Happy Warrior hanging on the wall of the union headquarters (in north
Minneapolis)? l was told that if someone were to hang his picture on the wall,
it would probably be used as a dart board.

Why so down on the Hump? I asked. As mayor of Minneapolis Humphrey played a
significant role in campaigns to decertify union locals affiliated with the UE
(United Electrical workers). The UE was one of the few unions that refused to
join in on the anti-Communist witch hunt led by US Senator Joe McCarthy
(Wisc.) and that didn't get totally wiped out by the Democratic Party and its
lackeys in the AFL and CIO.
