I've been seeing lots of painted ladies among my sunflowers, mums and coneflowers, so I'm guessing that may be what you are seeing, too. They're a bit smaller than Viceroy and Monarchs, and the underside of their wings is not as colorful.

To my inexpert eye, they also look more "moth like" too.
