I was in the same state of wonder when I received notice that all the curbs, gutters and sidewalk corners were going to be redone around my block. (And the adjacent blocks, but I'm not sure how far down.) This project, according to the mailing I got, will cost $4M and some change. The property owners are being assessed for some of it, but it doesn't seem enough to be the whole thing.
Aside from the fact that our gutters, curbs and sidewalk corners seemed just fine to me in the first place, and also that the ENTIRE intersection of 22nd and 16th was ripped to bits with no thought of parking and no accommodations made for the wheelchair bound, (they are back to the middle of the street again, just like when the city neglects to shovel in front of their MCDA-owned vacant lots,) I really wasn't sure why this was a reasonable thing to do given the current economic state we're in. What to do? P.S. If you want to hear more of my ...ahem... "critiquing," check out this letter to the editor in the MNDaily regarding wasteful landscaping at the U: http://www.mndaily.com/articles/2003/09/15/6504 Connie Nompelis Ventura Village __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
