Due to a lengthy discussion by groups on the other end of the room, my group got cut off without even finishing our discussion. As to "unfair", how is it "unfair" to require a rental property to be secure? How is "unfair" to make the landlord pay attention to illegal activities on his proprety. As I say, there is a small number of landlords who cost the city a lot of money. CM Samuels said the most they could get was a $75 fine. I said, "Well, Don, you sit on the council, why not change the ordinances appropriately?" Let's face it, there is a class of people we don't WANT doing business in our city. We closed the saunas because they ddint have the kind of business we wanted. We don't have any of the porn theaters anymore because Ferris Alexander was NOT our model of a "good businessman". I'm not against business. But the people who rant about the crack business can hardly say "Any business is good for the city". That isn't anybody's opinion except a few greedy exploiters. So lets clean out the exploiters and welcome the good citizens. And ignore those who always have an excuse for the kind of exploitation they find attractive.
FYI--Minneapolis Ordinance
"244.2020. Conduct on licensed premises. (a) It shall be the responsibility of the licensee to take appropriate action, with the assistance of the community crime prevention/SAFE unit and other units of the Minneapolis Police Department, following conduct by tenants and/or their guests on the licensed premises which is determined to be disorderly, in violation of any of the following statutes or ordinances, to prevent further violations."
One PRESUMES that all people who buy Minneapolis property for the purpose of RENTING it have been advised that this comes with the territory!!!!
