The Minneapolis Board of Education this morning agreed to offer the job of superintendent of schools to David Jennings. He indicated he would accept.
My take: --- A good, experienced savvy political leader when the Minneapolis schools -- and the very idea of public education as we know it -- are under extreme political pressure. --- Agreement that the academic directions of the district, however imperfect, offer the best choice for moving toward greater equity and student learning. --- Avoiding the interregnum problems for the year it might well take to bring in a new leader --- National search at $50-80,000 unlikely to produce lots of great contenders given such a strong internal candidate. Jennings indicated that he would move forward quickly to search for a Chief Academic Officer. Discuss. Dennis Schapiro Minneapolis Board of Education Linden Hills/Hawthorne work REMINDERS: 1.
