I find the argument to select David Jennings as superintendent lacking. Why? The Members of the School Board "know him," Carol Johnson has "worked" with him, he is political astute: "So much that happens in public schools is controlled in part by the state and federal level,"- oh, please! Basically, increased tests, standards and expectations for students and teachers, however, no credentials, lower standards and expectations for the superintendent position. My, My. ************************************************************** Johnson says Jennings will lead Minneapolis schools well Allie Shah, Star Tribune Published September 30, 2003
At a time when some black leaders in Minneapolis are outraged over the school board's choice for superintendent of the city's public schools, departing schools chief Carol Johnson expressed confidence Monday in the person named as her successor. David Jennings, a former politician and business leader-turned-school administrator, was offered the job last week at a school board discussion session. Since then, the decision to hire Jennings and the way the board made that decision have come under fire from various civic and church groups including the Minneapolis Urban League, the Coalition of Black Churches and from individuals such as state Reps. Neva Walker and Keith Ellison, both DFL-Minneapolis. http://www.startribune.com/stories/1592/4126861.html Members of the Minneapolis Public School Board http://www.mpls.k12.mn.us/about/board/board_of_education.shtml Minneapolis Public Schools Board Forgoes National Search Says Next Superintendent Will Be David Jennings http://www.mpls.k12.mn.us/news/news_release/jennings_sup.shtml Shawn Lewis, Field Neighborhood -- __________________________________________________________ Sign-up for your own personalized E-mail at Mail.com http://www.mail.com/?sr=signup CareerBuilder.com has over 400,000 jobs.
