Here's the point I'm trying to make. If I met any of you and asked you to guess my ethnic background, I'd probably get a multitude of answers. Some of them right, some wrong. However, if my wife met any of you and you were asked to guess her ethnic background, I'm gessing that a higher percentage would probably guess right. Why, because of the color of her skin.

It is human nature (as many on this list have asserted) to pre-judge people based upon their appearance. Especially when we (as a society) have so little personal data from which to draw upon to change these pre-judgements.

If we roped-off Minneapolis and asked how many of its residents had actually lived next to and had a chance to interact as neighbors with people that were of a significantly different appearance (and I'm not talking about the way they dress) then themselves, I think we'd be astounded.

As long as whites (the majority in our society) perdominantly live on one side of town and all minorities (currently in our society) live on another, we as a society, will NEVER reach a level of understanding that allows us to come to the conclusion that a person's ethnic heritage has very little to do with their character as a human being.

Racism exists because we choose not to understand and rejoice in our differences. We instead, choose to feel safe and secure only in our own thought processes.
