Normally I do not post the CUAPB newsletter to this list (since if you wanted it, you could just sign up for it).  However, this is a very short update on Bryce Williams, since some folks on the list asked.  It also has information on our two community meetings to take input on the next police chief.

GREAT NEWS--BRYCE WILLIAMS RELEASED FROM JAIL EARLY WITH NO CHARGES--THANKS TO YOU!
CUAPB board member and African American Men's Project commissioner Bryce Williams was released from jail at about 5:00 a.m. this morning.  Best of all, HE WAS RELEASED WITHOUT CHARGES.

While he could have been held until noon today while prosecutors decided whether or not to charge him, Bryce credits his early release to the numerous calls received at the jail on his behalf.  He stated, "once they started receiving calls, every part of the process was sped up for me."   One jail staff member told Bryce they had received over 100 phone calls expressing concern.  And that's only when they starting keeping a count, mid-morning yesterday.  This influx of calls resulted in the head warden repeatedly visiting Bryce to check on his well-being.  We also received a call on our hotline from the head of community relations for the Minneapolis Police Department regarding Bryce's case.

THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR YOUR EFFORTS!  This really shows the value of people power and what we can do when we pull together!  You folks are an awesome force!

Don't forget that tomorrow night we will hold the first of two community meetings to take input on what people want in the next police chief.  The recent brutality against NAACP members, police shootings of a father and son earlier this week and the arrest and release of anti-police brutality activist Bryce Williams are sure to be on people's minds and will inform our discussions.
