"There was a time in this country when one-room schoolrooms with teachers with "Eighth Grade Teaching Certificates" accomplished something that MPS with its "Doctors" cannot.  All the kids could read, rite, and do ithmetic, by the second or third grade. We robably need more "Bachelors" degrees and the money spent on reating parental involvement. Leave the "Doctors" at the niversity to create theory and give us a few more caring, edicated "REAL" teachers with BA's."

Come on Jim -- the teachers had eighth grade educations because that's more than most people had.  Do you really think that we should exclude people who have worked in the public school system and are aware of the various approaches to educational theory and hire a "businessman"?   Isn't that what's happened with healthcare?  I agree that there are massive problems with the way the district has been run -- my kid is black with LD and has not been served well at all.  However, I don't think that hiring a businessman/politico with no experience in education without a thorough discussion about what he brings to the table and what our other options are makes any sense at all.  The schools are not businesses and they cannot be run like businesses.  I repeat, what is the rush to hire Jennings?
