It appears in Minneapolis we have a secret organization called the Coalition of Black Churches and African American Leadership Summit. Why do I say this? Some, but not all, members of the African-American community do not know much about this organization. What do I mean by this statement?
1) How many churches are involved with this organization? 2) What are their names, address locations, and head pastors? 3) When and where do they meet? 4) HOW DO THEY LET OTHER AFRICAN-AMERICANS KNOW WHEN THEY MEET? 5) Is there a membership application or fee? I'm fully aware that Rev. Randy Staten claims to be head of this organization as well as the fact that some members in the African-American community have asked these same questions, but get little response. Maybe if we and the media start asking these and other questions, we might get an answer to the questions I and others have been asking for years. Shawn Lewis, Field Neighborhood ************************************************************ Coalition's quest puts it in limelight Rosalind Bentley, Star Tribune Published October 9, 2003 Just how did they do it? That was the question many were asking on Wednesday in the wake of David Jennings' announcement that he was turning down the job of superintendent of Minneapolis public schools. On Wednesday afternoon Staten; Rep. Keith Ellison, DFL-Minneapolis; Tyrone Terrill, director of the St. Paul Human Rights Department; Spike Moss, vice president of The City Inc., and other ministers and parents held a news conference to talk about their role in the Jennings affair. What quickly became apparent is that despite the criticism from some that they represent only a few people in the black community, their organizations and institutions extend well into that community. "Look, what you have seen here is aggressive, bold leadership on the part of the black church and other organizations to work on behalf of our children," Staten said moments before the news conference began. http://www.startribune.com/stories/1592/4144082.html -- __________________________________________________________ Sign-up for your own personalized E-mail at Mail.com http://www.mail.com/?sr=signup CareerBuilder.com has over 400,000 jobs.
