Unrelated Tenants
They might this, they might that. You could have fun with any situation by speculating on what MIGHT happen. Also, "we" are not pushing for anything. But I am pointing out that lack of relatedness doesn't really produce any unique problem in the cases I know about. All apartment buildings are structures rented to unrelated people. Do all of the mentioned disasters routinely happen with them? Well, certainly south of Lake in Uptown, you see excess cars parked. But you also don't see the city doing anything about it, so it seems dubious that the city cares that much about parking problems. My suspicious mind tells me this is probably about some people thinking orgies might go on without the proper married relationships. Funny, though, considering the people who put in the law probably grew up in the era of boarding houses and rented rooms. By the way, isn't there someway to put a cage around smoke detectors to prevent anyone from turning them off? We hear that tenants do that, but what we DON'T hear is about any attempt to prevent that. Seems like a critical issue to me.

Jennings
The whole way it was done has a stink about it. This is one of those cases where you wish you had the transcript of the meeting where this unanimous decision was made. Did some unknown person threaten the school children in some way unless they came across with this decision? One thing that really bothes me about Mr. Jennings is how he went from being Commerce Department Commissioner to heading a body that LOBBIES that government agency. That is revolving-door government, and that is a negative influence in our society. Oh, and in case some of you have forgotten. Jennins was COO when, according to some of you, the district failed the students. Yet, somehow he becomes Mr. Teflon when a promotion is made. As I say, my nose is twitching and wondering about that smell. But as for the Strib's claim of Jennings being "continuity", please go back and look at all the things Bush said he'd do. False promises are more trendy than ever. The Strib should know that. But a challenging political environment doesnt warrant making a hasbeen politician your educational leader. Heck, you can HIRE political consultants. In fact, I would recommend the board to do that and let the superintendent be someone who brings EDUCATIONAL excellence to the position!.
