Staten and Moss are not on the school board. A reasonable person would not
expect them to utilize the same kind of process of community involvement to
arrive at their position that one would expect the school board to utilize in
order to make their decision.

Staten and Moss certainly got input from the community and spoke for a large
part of the community about the hiring of David Jennings as Carol Johnson's
permanent replacement. If that was not the case, how do you explain Jennings
decision to break off contract negotiations and withdrawn his name as a
candidate?

I understood that you were questioning the right of Staten, Moss, et. al. to
speak out as community leaders. Yet, you do not question the right of Albert
Gallmon to speak out as a leader of the black community (or the NAACP). That's
because Staten, Moss, et. al. were providing public input that the board did
not want to hear.

Albert Gallmon, on the other hand, was THE spokesman for the NAACP branch,
but was unwilling to seek and take direction from the NAACP membership with
regard to the hiring of Jennings as superintendent, and the bylaws of the NAACP
require.

If the school board offers Staten, Moss et. al. "a seat at the table," then I
think that Staten, Moss et. al. should practice what they preach: Set up some
community meetings to get input, direction, and support from the folks they
will represent in the negotiations.
