Don Samuels voted right for the Northside and Northeast on this one. This was yet another rental housing project being jammed down the throats of communities that are littered with "For Rent" signs already. These are communities where too many citizens have for too long been denied the opportunity for home ownership. Homeowners are vested in their communities and are a stabilizing influence that helps fight crime and build sustainable communities. Homeownership advances families economically and provides multigenerational shelter and a way out of poverty.

Which begs the question: Given that homeownership helps lift families out of poverty, why are we continuing to build public housing? Especially when it's cheaper- this ill concieved projetct would have cost $250,000 for each unit of Holman replacement housing. It would have been cheaper to give each of families evicted by Holman a $100, 000 new house back in 1995!

But just think how many MPHA, "nonprofit", and Sherman et al managers that would have put out of work!
